Abstract

PThis study aims to analyze the local wisdom of the community in cajuput oil farming activities on Buano Island, Huamual Belakang District, West Seram Regency. Data were collected via a survey method. For the needs of data analysis, a sample of 30 respondents or 25 percent of the total population of 119 cajuput oil farmers was selected. The determination of respondents in this study using a simple random sampling technique. The results of the study showed that the local wisdom of the community in cajuput farming activities was described in 3 cultural forms, namely: (1) Mentifact (kewang: customary legal institutions adopted by the local community); (2) Sociofact (reading prayers, sasi, matakao) and (3) Artifact (cajuput oil processing using a traditional kettle, made of wood/wooden materials which is one of the legacies of the predecessors. This kettle was introduced by Chinese traders since the 1980s, which is still used today).
