Abstract

Cocoa farming is a primary source of income for millions of farmers in various countries, particularly in West Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, with countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Indonesia, and Nigeria as major producers. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the contribution of cocoa farming to farmer incomes in various countries and compare it with other farming practices, thereby providing insight into strategies to improve farmer welfare and the sustainability of the global cocoa industry. The method used in this study is a library research method. Cocoa farming has a significant opportunity to improve farmer welfare, especially with the surge in international cocoa prices that will more than triple by 2024. This price increase reflects high global demand for cocoa and opens up wider market opportunities for farmers. Suboptimal dependence on income from a single commodity can be addressed in several ways, namely by diversifying farming businesses, increasing market access and technology, and providing government support policies to support the sustainability of cocoa farming, thereby improving overall farmer welfare
