Design and Implementation of a Non-Contact Human Height Measurement Instrumentation System Based on an Ultrasonic Sensor and Arduino Microcontroller
Abstract
Height measurement is an important parameter in health, education, and sports. Conventional height measurement methods generally use measuring tapes and require manual reading, which may lead to human errors. This study aims to design and implement a human height measurement instrumentation system using an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor and an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The system consists of an ultrasonic sensor, Arduino Uno R3, LCD 16×2 display, breadboard, jumper wires, and supporting packaging. The ultrasonic sensor measures the distance between the sensor and the user's head by utilizing ultrasonic wave reflection. The measured distance is processed by the Arduino Uno and converted into height data, which is then displayed on the LCD screen in real time. System testing was conducted on seven participants with measured heights of 146 cm, 147 cm, 148 cm, 149 cm, 153 cm, 155 cm, and 156 cm. The results indicate that the developed system can perform automatic height measurements effectively and provide direct measurement results to users. The proposed system offers a practical, low-cost, and easy-to-use solution for height measurement applications.
