Pencegahan Hiperurisemia Melalui Deteksi Dini Kadar Asam Urat pada Masyarakat Negeri Kamal
Prevention of Hyperuricemia Through Early Detection of Uric Acid Levels
Abstract
Abstract. Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism, and elevated blood uric acid levels, or
hyperuricemia, can be caused by increased production, decreased excretion, or both. It is also influenced by
age, a high-purine diet, alcohol consumption, medications, and lifestyle. This community service activity aims
to detect uric acid levels in adults in Negeri Kamal, West Seram Regency, and raise awareness of the
importance of regular check-ups to prevent health complications. The activity was held in June 2024 in the
Negeri Kamal hall, involving 52 adult participants. Uric acid levels were examined using capillary blood using
the Point of Care Test (POCT) method, followed by a consultation with a doctor. The results showed that
participants were predominantly female (63.5%). The average uric acid level of participants was within the
normal range, at 5.76 mg/dL. However, hyperuricemia was found in 15.4% of women and 9.6% of men. Although
most results were normal, this activity emphasizes the importance of regular uric acid level checks, especially in
the elderly and individuals with high-risk lifestyles. This activity is expected to increase public awareness of the
importance of early detection and prevention of hyperuricemia through healthy lifestyle changes, education,
and regular check-ups at local health facilities.
