Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of red algae (Porphyra sp.) supplementation on feed efficiency and the productivity of laying hens. The study was conducted at the UPTD for Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health (Keswan dan Kesmavet) in Passo, involving 126 Lohman Brown laying hens. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, consisting of a control group (P0) and six treatment groups (P1 through P6) receiving Porphyra sp. meal supplementation at levels ranging from 0.5% to 1.75%. The variables observed were feed efficiency, egg production, and feed consumption. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, and in the event of significant differences, the data were further tested using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results indicate that Porphyra sp. supplementation had a significant effect (p<0.05) on each variable. The best feed efficiency was observed in the P1 group, while the highest egg production was found in the P3 group. Supplementation with 0.5% Porphyra sp. has the potential to improve the performance of laying hens and serves as an alternative natural feed additive.
