Abstract
Digital technology has transformed the way students understand and communicate meaning in language learning. Communication no longer relies solely on spoken and written language but also involves images, audio, video, gestures, text, and various digital resources. This condition requires prospective language teachers to have the ability to understand texts and convey messages through various modalities in an integrated manner. This community service activity aimed to provide project-based multimodal pedagogy training and mentoring to students of English Language Education and German Language Education. The participants consisted of 100 students from the Department of Language and Arts Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Pattimura. The activities included an introduction to the concepts of multimodality and modality, training in multimodal text comprehension, project planning, production of multimodal works, mentoring, presentation, feedback, and reflection. The results showed that the students were able to understand texts through a combination of various semiotic resources and communicate ideas by integrating spoken language, written text, images, audio, gestures, and digital resources. The project-based approach also provided students with opportunities to select resources, organize content, determine presentation formats, and revise their products. These findings indicate that project-based multimodal pedagogy training and mentoring can serve as a relevant strategy for strengthening language-learning experiences, multimodal communication skills, and students’ preparedness as prospective language teachers to meet the demands of digital learning environments.
