Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen students’ English language skills and digital literacy through the implementation of the Informal Digital Learning of English (IDLE) program. The program was designed to promote the effective use of digital technology in English language learning in a flexible, contextual, and learner-centered manner. The implementation methods included introducing the IDLE concept, training students to utilize various English-language digital platforms, facilitating independent learning activities, and conducting evaluations through observation and participant reflection. The program engaged students as active participants who were encouraged to access, explore, and utilize digital learning resources independently. The results indicated improvements in students’ English language proficiency, particularly in their ability to comprehend and use English through digital media. In addition, participants demonstrated enhanced digital literacy skills, including the ability to access, evaluate, and utilize digital information effectively. The novelty of this program lies in the integration of IDLE-based English learning with digital literacy enhancement within a community service context in higher education. Therefore, the IDLE program can serve as an alternative learning strategy to support the development of language competence and digital literacy among university students in the era of digital transformation.
