Abstract

The use of appropriate learning models can help improve students' cognitive abilities. One student-centered learning model that encourages active participation in the learning process is the guided inquiry model. This study aims to determine the improvement in students' cognitive abilities on static fluid material in class XI Science 2 at SMAN 3 Ambon taught using the guided inquiry learning model. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique based on the consideration that the average score of class XI Science 2 was lower than that of other classes. The instruments used to collect data included test and non-test instruments. The test instrument consisted of pre-test and post-test questions, while the non-test instrument was a Student Worksheet (LKPD). The data analysis technique used in this study was descriptive quantitative analysis. The results showed that the initial cognitive ability was qualified as failed. During the learning process, the average score of student achievement reached the excellent qualification, as did the average post-test score. The N-Gain test results obtained an average student score in the high qualification. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the guided inquiry learning model on static fluid material can improve the cognitive abilities of class XI Science 2 students at SMAN 3 Ambon.
