Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi jenis-jenis tumbuhan pakan lokal dan menganalisis ketersediaan hijauan pakan di Provinsi Papua Selatan dengan menggunakan pendekatan studi pustaka. Data yang digunakan bersumber dari literatur sekunder seperti laporan statistik, jurnal ilmiah, buku akademik, dan data instansi pemerintah. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 78 spesies hijauan pakan yang terdiri dari rumput, leguminosa, dan tumbuhan non-pakan, dengan spesies dominan seperti Imperata cylindrica, Cyperus rotundus, dan Calopogonium mucunoides. Analisis ketersediaan hijauan menunjukkan total produksi sebesar 5.120.490 ton bahan kering per tahun, dengan kebutuhan ternak hanya sebesar 35.480 ton per tahun. Indeks Daya Dukung (IDD) di seluruh wilayah berkisar antara 4,7 hingga 8,3 yang termasuk dalam kategori sangat aman. Kajian ini menegaskan bahwa Papua Selatan memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan peternakan ruminansia secara berkelanjutan berbasis sumber daya lokal, meskipun masih dibutuhkan optimalisasi pemanfaatan dan pengelolaan hijauan.

ABSTRACT 

This study aims to explore the diversity of local forage plant species and to analyze forage availability in South Papua Province through a literature-based approach. The research utilized secondary data collected from official statistical reports, scientific journals, academic publications, and government documents. A total of 78 forage plant species were identified, comprising grasses, legumes, and non-forage vegetation. Among these, Imperata cylindrica, Cyperus rotundus, and Calopogonium mucunoides were found to be the most dominant and widely distributed species. The analysis of forage availability revealed a total dry matter production of 5,120,490 tons per year, whereas the estimated annual forage requirement for livestock was 35,480 tons. The Forage Carrying Capacity Index (FCC or IDD) across all districts ranged from 4.7 to 8.3, indicating a highly secure status. These results underscore the substantial potential of South Papua in supporting the sustainable development of ruminant livestock production based on the optimal utilization of local forage resources. However, efforts to enhance forage management and utilization strategies remain necessary to fully realize this potential.
