Eco-Enzyme Precipitate Made from Fruit Peel to Increase the Growth of Ipomoea reptans Poiret
Abstract
Organic waste, particularly fruit peels, continues to contribute to environmental problems due to limited utilization despite its potential as a renewable agricultural resource. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of eco-enzyme precipitate produced from mixed fruit peels as an alternative solid organic fertilizer for improving the vegetative growth of land kale ( Ipomoea reptans Poiret). The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design ( CRD ) consisting of four treatment levels of eco-enzyme precipitate concentration, namely 0, 30, 60, and 90 g/1000 mL of water, with three replications for each treatment. Plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area were observed for 25 days after planting. The precipitate was also analyzed to determine its nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) contents before application. The laboratory analysis revealed that the precipitate contained 0.243% nitrogen, 0.01217% phosphorus, and 0.02254% potassium, indicating that its macronutrient content had not yet met the Indonesian National Standard ( SNI ) for solid organic fertilizers. Nevertheless, statistical analysis demonstrated that the application of eco-enzyme precipitation significantly enhanced vegetative growth compared with the untreated control. Among the tested concentrations, 60 g/1000 mL consistently produced the most favorable response in plant height, leaf production, leaf dimensions, and total leaf area. Although its nutrient concentration remains relatively low, the precipitation provides sufficient bioactive compounds and organic substances to stimulate plant growth. Therefore, fruit peel-based eco-enzyme precipitate has promising potential as an environmentally friendly alternative to organic fertilizer while simultaneously supporting the sustainable utilization of organic household waste.
