Abstract

This community service program was conducted by a team from Universitas Sriwijaya through the installation of a reverse osmosis (RO)- membrane-based water-treatment unit in Ulak Segelung Village, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The eight-month program, conducted from March to October 2025, included system design, assembly, installation, operational demonstrations, and initial community assistance. Participants' perceptions were evaluated at the end of the program using an 11-item questionnaire completed by 40 participants; this article reports three indicators directly related to perceived understanding, benefit, and relevance to community needs. 32 respondents (80%) considered the program highly beneficial, 7 (17.5%) moderately beneficial, and 1 (2.5%) not beneficial. These results indicate positive participant acceptance of the program. However, the quality of the water treated, actual production capacity, and potability cannot yet be determined because post-treatment physical, chemical, and microbiological test results have not been reported.
