PELATIHAN BUDIDAYA TANAMAN NILAM DAN JAHE DENGAN METODE HUGELKULTUR BAGI MASYARAKAT DESA JATIJEJER
Abstract
Limited water availability during the dry season poses a challenge for the cultivation of essential oil-producing crops in Jatijejer Village, Trawas District, Mojokerto Regency. Environmentally friendly and sustainable cultivation practices are also crucial for maintaining soil fertility in agricultural areas. These conditions necessitate the adoption of cultivation technologies that utilize local resources while enhancing water-use efficiency and the fertility of the growing medium. This community service initiative aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in Jatijejer Village regarding ginger and patchouli cultivation using the Hügelkultur technique—an organic and sustainable farming model. The activities comprised lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and mentoring, covering the selection of local organic materials, construction of Hügelkultur beds, preparation of planting materials, planting of ginger and patchouli, organic fertilization, and crop maintenance. The results demonstrated an improvement in the farmers' understanding and skills in applying the Hügelkultur technique, evidenced by an increase in evaluation scores from 73% in the pre-test to 98% in the post-test. Skill improvement was also reflected in the participants' ability to independently select and utilize available organic materials to construct beds, as well as to plant and maintain ginger and patchouli crops. Participants achieved a 100% skill proficiency rate in the final evaluation. Thus, this activity has successfully enhanced the farmers' capacity to implement Hügelkultur cultivation techniques utilizing local organic materials.
