Attacks by Plant Pest Organisms on Nutmeg and Clove Plants in Negeri Allang
Abstract
Nutmeg (Myristica fragranss Houtt) and cloves (Syzigium aromaticum) have their own historical value in the history of the world spice trade, especially Maluku. Central Maluku Regency is one of the centers for nutmeg and clove production in Maluku. Negeri Allang, which is located in West Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency, is one of the areas where the majority of farmers cultivate nutmeg and cloves. In the cultivation of nutmeg and cloves, pest and disease attacks often occur which greatly affect the plant's growth, resulting in decreased production and even death. This research aims to determine the intensity of damage that occurs and appropriate control techniques to minimize pest and disease attacks. This research uses a survey method by conducting observations in Allang Country. Next, 10 sample farmers were taken who cultivated nutmeg and clove crops. Sample plants will be taken from each farmer, their cultivation system and the intensity of damage will be calculated. The results of this research show that the average intensity of damage to nutmeg plants due to stem borers and wet fruit rot is 5.14% and 5.60% respectively (light criteria). The average intensity of damage to clove plants due to stem borers and leaf spot pests was 17.19% and 11.46%, respectively. Even though the average intensity of damage obtained is still in the light category, it is necessary to carry out appropriate control techniques to prevent major damage, including: garden sanitation, chemically, biologically and culturally.
