Abstract

This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) to investigate the effectiveness of using YouTube videos in improving vocabulary mastery among Class VII (E) students at Tiakur State Junior High School. The main objectives were to determine how YouTube videos could enhance students vocabulary skills and to examine their responses toward this learning medium. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, as well as pre-tests and post-tests. The pre-test results showed that only 35% of students demonstrated adequate vocabulary mastery, as many struggled to understand questions and achieved low scores. After implementing YouTube-based learning in Cycle 1, post-test results increased to 56%, indicating notable improvement. In Cycle 2, with refined teaching strategies and more relevant video materials, the post-test scores rose to 88%. These results indicate that YouTube videos effectively improved students' vocabulary mastery and promoted positive learning attitudes. Students became more motivated, active, and engaged during the lessons. In conclusion, the integration of YouTube videos in English vocabulary learning successfully enhanced students’ understanding and retention of new words. Teachers are encouraged to use YouTube videos as an interactive and engaging tool to make vocabulary learning more effective and meaningful.
