USING COLLABORATIVE WRITING STRATEGY TO DEVELOP STUDENTS' WRITING SKILL IN RECOUNT TEXT AT XI GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 13 MALUKU BARAT DAYA
Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the use of Collaborative Writing Strategy to develop students’ writing skill in recount text amongst the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 13 Maluku Barat Daya. The study applied Classroom Action Research model by Kemmis and McTaggart, consist of two cycles with planning, action, observation, and reflection stage. The research involved 37 students from class XI-5 as participants. Data were collected through tests, observation, and questionnaires, and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings revealed significant improvement in students’ writing performance after implementing the Collaborative Writing Strategy. The mean score increased from 59.29 in the pretest to 78.68 in the post-test of cycle II, indicating a 32,70% improvement. Moreover, 89.18% of students achieved scores above the Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) of 70. The students also showed higher motivation, better cooperation, and more confidence in writing activities. The study concludes that Collaborative Writing Strategy effectively develop students’ writing ability in factual recount text, promotes active learning, and creates a more engaging classroom atmosphere. Therefore, it is recommended that English teachers apply this strategy to improve students’ writing competence, particularly in writing recount texts.
