Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

MATAI: International Journal of Language Education (ISSN 2774-6356) applies a rigorous double-blind peer review process to all submitted manuscripts. Both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout the review process.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

Every manuscript submitted to MATAI is first screened by the editorial team. At this stage the editor checks:

  • Conformity with the journal's focus and scope;
  • Compliance with the Author Guidelines and the journal template;
  • Originality, through a similarity check (plagiarism screening);
  • Basic language quality, since all articles must be written in English.

Manuscripts that do not pass this screening are returned to the authors without external review.

2. Double-Blind Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least one independent expert reviewer in the relevant field. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its importance and originality, theoretical and methodological soundness, the quality of the analysis and findings, the use of up-to-date and relevant literature, and clarity of presentation. The standard review period is up to four (4) weeks.

3. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept the manuscript without revisions;
  • Minor revisions – the manuscript is accepted after small improvements;
  • Major revisions – the manuscript must be substantially revised and may be re-reviewed;
  • Reject – the manuscript is not suitable for publication in this journal.

4. Revision and Final Decision

Authors are expected to submit their revised manuscript within the time given in the decision letter. The editor verifies that all reviewer comments have been addressed before making the final decision. The Editor in Chief holds the final authority on the acceptance of every manuscript.

The complete review criteria used by our reviewers are available in the journal's review guidelines, and the ethical standards that govern the review process are described in our Publication Ethics statement.
