Plagiarism Screening Policy
TRITON: Jurnal Manajemen Sumberdaya Perairan is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. To prevent plagiarism in all its forms, every manuscript submitted to the journal undergoes a rigorous plagiarism screening process.
Screening Tool
The editorial team uses iThenticate software, powered by Crossref Similarity Check, to screen all submissions for potential plagiarism and textual similarity. This tool compares manuscripts against a vast database of academic publications, internet sources, and other submitted documents.
Screening Process
The screening is conducted in two stages:
- Initial Screening (Pre-Review): Upon submission, every manuscript is screened before it proceeds to the peer-review process. The initial similarity report is analyzed by the editorial board.
- Final Screening (Pre-Publication): Manuscripts that have been accepted for publication undergo a final check to ensure all revisions have been properly implemented and that the final version meets our similarity threshold.
Similarity Threshold and Editorial Analysis
A similarity index of 25% or lower is generally required for a manuscript to proceed to the peer-review stage. However, the editorial board conducts a qualitative analysis of the similarity report, which is more critical than the percentage alone. The following factors are carefully considered:
- Source of Similarity: Matches to the authors' own published work, common methodological phrases, or properly quoted and cited sources are treated differently than matches to uncited texts.
- Distribution of Similarity: A low overall percentage with a single high-similarity section (indicating copied blocks of text) is a greater concern than a higher percentage distributed evenly across the manuscript in the form of common phrases and technical terms.
- Proper Citation: Text that is matched from other sources must be appropriately placed within quotation marks and cited correctly.
Editorial Actions
Based on the comprehensive analysis of the similarity report, the editorial board will take one of the following actions:
- Proceed to Review: If the similarity is within an acceptable range and analysis shows no significant plagiarism.
- Request for Revision: The manuscript may be returned to the author(s) to address specific issues, such as improper paraphrasing or missing citations, before peer review can begin.
- Reject: Manuscripts that show evidence of severe plagiarism, including verbatim copying of substantial text without attribution, redundant publication, or academic dishonesty, will be rejected immediately.
Authors are expected to ensure their submissions are original and to properly cite and reference all sources used. Manuscripts found to violate our plagiarism policy will be subject to immediate rejection, and serious cases may lead to further sanctions in accordance with COPE guidelines.
