Manuscript Types

KOMUNITAS: Jurnal Ilmu Sosiologi (COMMUNITY: Journal of Sociology) publishes original scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of sociological knowledge, theoretical development, methodological innovation, and empirical understanding of social phenomena. The journal accepts manuscripts written in Indonesian or English that fall within its focus and scope.

1. Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles report findings from original empirical research using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods approaches. Manuscripts must address relevant sociological questions and demonstrate a clear relationship between research objectives, theoretical perspectives, methodology, findings, and conclusions.

Topics may include socio-cultural studies, urban and rural sociology, sociology of education, sociology of law, sociology of religion, sociology of gender, political sociology, economic sociology, family sociology, and the sociology of island communities. Articles should provide original empirical evidence and a clear contribution to sociological knowledge.

Manuscripts generally include an introduction, theoretical or conceptual framework where appropriate, research methods, results and discussion, conclusion, and references.

2. Theoretical and Conceptual Articles

Theoretical and Conceptual Articles critically examine, develop, or extend sociological theories, concepts, and analytical frameworks. These manuscripts should offer a substantial intellectual contribution rather than merely summarize existing theories or literature.

Suitable contributions include critical reassessments of sociological theories, conceptual development, theoretical propositions, comparative theoretical analyses, and the application of sociological concepts to emerging social phenomena.

Manuscripts must demonstrate conceptual clarity, logical argumentation, critical engagement with relevant literature, and a clearly articulated contribution to sociological scholarship.

3. Review Articles

Review Articles provide a systematic, critical, or integrative synthesis of existing scholarly literature on a specific sociological topic. They should identify key debates, theoretical developments, empirical findings, methodological trends, and unresolved research questions.

The journal welcomes systematic literature reviews, scoping reviews, and integrative or critical reviews. Authors must explain their review methods transparently, including the search strategy, selection criteria, and procedures for analyzing and synthesizing the literature, as appropriate to the review design.

Review Articles must offer analytical insights and a clear contribution beyond a descriptive summary of previous publications. Reporting frameworks such as PRISMA should be applied where appropriate.

4. Methodological Articles

Methodological Articles present substantive contributions to sociological research methods, analytical strategies, or research practices. Topics may include qualitative research, ethnography, survey design, mixed-methods research, participatory research, digital sociology, social network analysis, and innovative approaches to studying marginalized or geographically dispersed communities.

Manuscripts must explain the methodological problem, the rationale for the proposed approach, its implementation, and its implications for the quality or interpretation of sociological research. Routine applications of established methods without a meaningful methodological contribution are more appropriately submitted as Original Research Articles.
